Curiosity is an integral part of humanity.

New Frontier is an interactive magazine that both analyzes and celebrates the incredible spirit of human exploration. As champions of lifelong learning, New Frontier invites readers to pursue their curiosity and think deeper about the world. Each issue of this conceptual magazine covers two areas of exploration and finds ways to weave them both together. The first issue is all about Oceans + Outer Space.

Letter from the editors

Charlton and I built New Frontier from the ground up. In addition to designing the magazine and directing our talented contributors, we also researched topics like cultural myths and deep sea creatures and wrote articles to share our findings.

The magazine is filled with little details that encourage readers to interact with it in different ways. There are pages to write in and draw on, a code to unlock as you read through the articles, and prompts that invite readers to think deeper about these topics and share their thoughts.

Space-themed feature article

The feature articles use an accordion-style layout, which readers can unfold. The space-themed feature is horizontal to show a timeline of the space race, while the ocean-themed feature is rotated vertically to illustrate the concept of exploring the deep sea.

Unconventional page sizes show up throughout the magazine to highlight fun features, like this “Where’s Waldo?” style activity.
